I had an implant done on my upper front missing tooth about one year ago, but I need braces badly because my upper and lower do not touch.

Could I get braces even with my tooth implant? And if I cannot get braces due to my tooth implant, will I have problems with my implant and my gum? ... Visitor from NJ

Answer:
Having an implant is not a contraindication to having orthodontic treatment. The position of the implant or the crown on the implant however can not move. Unlike a natural tooth orthodontic movement can not occur with the implant.

Usually during the course of the orthodontic treatment, a temporary, more adjustable crown can be placed on the implant so that it's appearance and position can be altered slightly over time allowing the natural teeth to be placed in the most ideal position.

Having that implant does not fully dictate where the bite must be; you can definately achieve an optimal result.
